From the runway to your living room

London Fashion Week runways are always flooded with models sporting striking and amazing hairstyles, from avant guard and radical creations to simplistic, clean styles, all of which really make people’s heads turn. Some of my fav looks actually graced the catwalk last Autumn 2013 – and they are still going strong!

The style Phillip Lim chose for his models for LFW ’13 is easy to create at home, as it is natural soft and effortless… I love the deep side parting as it gives this hairstyle a more up-to-date style. The soft waves of this hairstyle would suit all face shapes.

What you need to create this look: Large barrelled wand, dry shampoo, hair spray, texturing cream.

1. Use a dry shampoo which will act as a cleanser to absorb excess oil and add volume. It will also extend the life of a blow-dry and leave hair with a matte texture.

2. Create a deep side parting at the front of your hair best suited to you face shape.

3. Curl hair using your wand starting from the back of your head at the nape of your neck working up towards your crown. Curl from ends leaving a few inches away from your roots leaving the to part of your hair straight (whilst curling the hair always pin curls using sectioning clips before letting the curl drop, this helps set the curls)

4. Once you have finished curling and pinning leave hair for approx 15 mins. 5. Take pins out and then shake the hair loose. Now using a wide tooth comb work the comb through hair, then spray with dry shampoo to create a messier texture. 6. Use a little texturising cream on ends of the hair to create a more undone curl. 7. Now spray with hairspray to secure in place. 8. Try adding a boho head wrap to create a more stylish look.

Phillip Lim has been reported to have said during LFW 2013: “The collection is loosely inspired by café racer culture, riffing off of motorcycle style”.

Who doesn’t like The Great Gatsby?  The book takes you to a place of decadence and sexiness… and that movie with Leo DiCaprio just oozes 1920s fashion… the hair is gorgeous… you can check out some images on the Warner Bros website: CLICK.

Carla and Ed

I get blown away when I see the beautiful brides I work with ready to walk down the aisle. It is magical, and sometimes sharing the images of other brides’  weddings can inspire brides-to-be… and so here are some beautiful photos from Carla’s and Ed’s special day…

Ohh LaLa – Love the French style

French women have an amazing sense of style when it comes to fashion, makeup and hair, don’t they? If you fancy looking as stylish, chic and sophisticated, then why not try out these stunning French hair up dos for that extra wow factor?

The Chignon Bun: A simple classic chic bun hairstyle which oozes demure elegance. The chignon is best suited to long or medium length hair. The chignon bun can be worn at the crown, nape or the side, so therefore complementing most face shapes. For those of you with shorter hair, you need not be disappointed as there are so any fabulous bun clip-ins available. Try Balmain’s ready to wear collection they have a selection of fabulous bun pieces in many colours.

sophisticated up doThe French Pleat: This lovely hairstyle is also known as a French roll. It is a classic look that goes back to the 1940s. The French pleat is a vertical roll of hair, worn at the back of the head. It is suitable for long hair but can be achieved with mid-length hair. The French pleat suits ladies of all ages. The wonderful fold of hair is so neat and sophisticated, and this fabulous hairstyle can be worn with height at the top, messy and textured for a more fashion forward look or simply clean and tidy with high shine for a more structured formal style.

The French Braid: The French braid has always been a favourite hairstyle for many of us ladies. It’s such a versatile hairstyle that can be worn day and night! This three-stranded braid can be very practical and dressy. Whether you’re going to work, playing sports or going out for the evening. The French braid can be worn in so many ways. You can adapt long curls into a girl next door look by adding a French braid at the hairline. If you care for a more sophisticated look, try introducing a French braid into a loose curly bun. For a romantic evening style try a braid encircling the head known as a milkmaid braid or a crown braid.

Blonde Bridal Hair Inspiration

As a bride-to-be you will find yourself constantly looking for inspiration around you all the way up to your big day, even if you have chosen everything for your wedding, and even if your ideas are fixed… it’s just a part of being a bride-to-be right? You want to look at this veil, that dress, her cake, that hairstyle, those shoes and the list goes on. As a lover of all things bridal and weddings, I just had to share an absolutely inspirational and stunning photo taken of Emily Chidwick at Chewton Glen; I was so pleased with her hair, and this shot shows the style beautifully, as well as her dress and her bouquet – plus of course it shows how magical the wedding was, she’s even smiling whilst kissing her groom.

What Balmain say about Vicki Lord

I’m totally honoured to be able to say I have worked and trained so closely with such an amazing brand and company as Balmain, still working with them and their products just strengthens my ability as a hair stylist… and I feel even more honoured when I hear what they have to say about me, thank you Balmain:

‘Vicki Lord is an extremely talented session stylist and Bridal hair expert. Vicki worked for Balmain Hair as a Hair Extensions Education specialist, for many years all over the country, and never failed to amaze us with her passion and creative work. wedding photographer

I’m not the only one who’s Loopy about Weddings!

I am so dedicated to hair, and I like to think of myself as ever bride’s hair fairy godmother… and I literally will bend over backwards to do all I can on the day of trials and consultations, as well as on the actual wedding day – but I am a specialist – I do hair – a self-confessed perfectionist with all things related to hair – and so it is super important that the rest of the bridal team is as dedicated, and maybe a little loopy about what they specialise in too… because then the bride’s day is bound to go smoothly, with lots of fun, and magic…

So with me, Vicki Lord, a bride would have the hair completely perfect, but what about the photography or example? Well, Lyndsey Goddard is a great photographer (photographed above) and has the ability to capture real memories… moments that will want to be kept forever, look at always and shared with family and friends.

Here are some words from Lyndsey, so you can get to know her better… and of course to see some of her work, and how she will capture your day head to her website: Lyndsey Goddard.

“Thank you for stopping by to take a look at my work and to read more about how I will cover your day. I have worked as a fulltime professional wedding photographer for 6 years, and consider it a privilege to spend my working days doing something so enjoyable! I work throughout London and the UK as a documentary wedding photographer, photographing weddings in vast stately homes, quaint village churches, chic city hotels, rustic country barns, parents’ back gardens and everywhere in between. I have covered intimate weddings where you can count the guests on one hand, weddings with over 500 guests, and every amount in between. No two weddings are alike except for one thing; the couple who have booked me want unobtrusive, natural coverage of their day, and photos which will have an honesty about them, whilst telling the story of their day creatively and artistically. I studied Fine Art before making a natural progression to photography, gaining my qualifications at LCC, part of the prestigious University of the Arts London, and my skills through various assignments and projects ranging from pregnancy portraits and births, travel photojournalism in Cuba, album covers and covering the Cannes Film Festival for French newspaper Le Monde… I am proud to be a multi-award winning member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA)…”
